Current exhibition
‘Hindsight’ Wednesday 22 June - Saturday 2 July
A Colchester Institute graphic Media retrospective show for years foundation through two from the BA graphic Media degree scheme
“The work featured in this show is a chance for us to explore the process a Graphic Design student goes through when studying to become a fully developed practitioner. If we avoid the intrinsic process of Hindsight, we would simply be allowing our work to cycle endlessly. Hindsight is a graphic design student’s way to avoid this spiral, a way to exorcise the past through an evaluative and developing future. We hope this show introduces you to this principle and affords you the same enjoyment it does us.”
Upcoming exhibition
‘Open 3’ Wednesday 6 July – Saturday 23 July
The third Slack Space open show
Final selections are being made as we speak but, with over 70 applicants, this show promises to be as exciting and dynamic as previous Slack space opens. Slack Space open shows favour artists who live or work in Colchester Borough and have not exhibited in Slack Space before.

Slack Space Carnival entry
We’re really looking forward to taking part in this year’s Colchester Carnival! Would you like to join us? We’d love as many of our friends and supporters as possible to take part…….
We’ll lend you a Slack Space T shift (if you haven’t already got one), otherwise wear something bright and colourful!
We’ll supply streamers, or bring your own!
Anyone with poi, juggling balls or anything else wonderful particularly welcome!
Consider attending the free Slack Space Carnival costume making workshop (details above) to make yourself a colourful back pack or headdress to wear for the procession
We will be accompanied by live musicians led by the fantastic Slack Jazz team! We would like to invite other musicians to join the procession with us. In order to participate you will need to play an instrument that doesn’t need amplification and be familiar with these two songs, which will be played around the route. Percussionists are welcome. We will be setting up a rehearsal nearer the time which we would encourage you to attend:
In the Mood (in G) Glen Miller
Feeling good (in E minor) Nina Simone (Michael Bublé version)

Call for original musicians and groups
Escalator Music is still going strong as a ground breaking talent development project for the best original musicians and groups in the Eastern region. It is run by Norwich Arts Centre and supported by Arts Council England, East. They have another round of selections coming up. If you would like to nominate somebody or encourage them to apply it’s very easy.
Simply send 3 or 4 recent music tracks and fill in a short application form which is on the website at www.escalatormusic.co.uk. Just click on the words “submission form” in the ‘Apply’ section of the website. Email the form and the tracks to rosie@norwichartscentre.co.uk or send to Escalator Music, Norwich Arts Centre, 51 St Benedicts St, Norwich, NR2 4PG.
